Let’s

The first patio evening of the year,

And I am watching the clouds, so white

They almost hurt my eyes and feathered

Along their edges like they’re dusting

Up some unseen dirt that stands

Between me and the blue. The year

Is cleaner than it will ever be, newborn

Leaves breaking through the wood—

They hold fall within them, but let's not

Go there now. The first fresh cut of

Grass tickling my nose, a buzz of bees

Searching for the yet unbloomed, the

Rainbow silk of spider webs spun

Through the impossible space between

Porch rail and chair—let’s live for a

Moment in the moment, goosebumps

Raised by the breeze rising with the

Falling night. What will last lasts,

And the wonder is that I am here at all.
